Two Major International Airports in Singapore

The Republic of Singapore is a Southeast Asian city-state known for its famous infrastructural masterpieces around the world. The city-state offers world-class facilities to every traveller, be it for exploring Singapore by availing  a Singapore visit visa or accessing the services at the airports.

The airports in Singapore are themselves an architectural wonder to witness. With so many other aviation hubs, here are the major international airports in Singapore.

Singapore Changi Airport

Singapore Changi Airport, also known as Changi Airport, is a major international airport in Singapore. Ranked among the world’s best airports by Skytrax for the eighth consecutive year, the airport is one of the largest aviation hubs in Asia and one of the busiest airports by international passenger and cargo traffic. Changi Airport also holds the title of being the cleanest and most highly rated international transit airport in the world.

Located at the eastern end of Singapore, this strategic position not only makes it easy to reach the destination, but the location also has a high demand for layovers, serving as a focus city for Qantas and the flagship cargo centre for FedEx Express in Asia. The airport has four terminals, a fifth under construction, three runways, and eight air freight facilities ready to launch the next generation of aviation by the next decade. It handles more than 100 airlines from 400 destinations around the world, welcoming and departing more than 66 million passengers every year.

Singapore Changi Airport is itself a popular attraction to visit in Singapore. With the establishment of Jewel (another airport linked to Changi Airport) on April 17, 2019, nature-themed entertainment caught the world's attention. A shopping hub featuring top-notch brands, world-class restaurants serving international flavours, five-star hotels and all sorts of entertainment activities, the passengers have a wide range of options to choose from. Apart from leisure activities, be sure to view the Kinetic Rain Sculpture or the Rain Vortex-40-meter-tall cascading water falling down from the dome-shaped roof of Jewel Changi Airport, which is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.

Seletar Airport

Singapore Seletar Airport, built in 1929 as RAF Seletar, was a military base of the British Royal Airforce, later taken over by the Changi Airport group in 2009 and now serves as a civilian international airport for Singapore's northeast region. The airport is located approximately 20 km from the city centre and 16 km from Singapore Changi Airport, which makes it quite accessible to your destination.

Seletar Airport primarily serves smaller-sized private planes, business jet airlines, aeroplanes coming in for maintenance and training flights, and as a secondary destination for turboprop planes flying into Singapore to relieve the strain on Changi Airport. The airport has a single runway with 27 aircraft stands, handling 840 tonnes of freight daily, and a 100 sq. metre warehouse space. The new passenger terminal building and infrastructure have the capacity to serve over 700,000 passengers per annum. However, all the commercial operations of Singapore happen around Changi Airport.

The further projects of Seletar Airport are said to expand and operate successfully as a significant airport in Singapore, which may even relieve the congestion of Changi Airport. It has well-maintained services and facilities, which include more check-in counters, a great café, and a large seating area at the departure gate.

Seletar Airport is accessible by public bus service number 102. You can reach the airport by taxi, or MRT. You can even take the bus, as the bus stop is only 50 metres from the terminal.

Airlines are the lifelines of a country, and these two major international airports in Singapore constitute a significant part of air transport in Singapore.
